David & Paulette found each other via their mutual love for music. After 2,5 years of dating they now live together in Utrecht, where they spend their time making music, drinking wine and staying in bed all day, dreaming about their future together.

What do you do?
David: I am a musician and lead singer and also make my own music.
Paulette: I study pedagogy in Utrecht. I also really love to sing and I model sometimes.

At what moment did you know you were in love?
Paulette: It was during the first time I went to a performance of David, which was at Dauphine in Utrecht. He sang this beautiful song called ‘Good Kisser’, which has a sentence that goes like: ‘this girl, she’s my hero, get dinero, euros, persos, francs and yen’. The moment he sang that sentence he pointed at me, which gave me instant butterflies.
David: You fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time.

‘The best love is the one that makes you a better person, without changing you into someone other than yourself’ - Paulette

Do you have a special place, or a place you call a ‘second home’ where the two of you like to hang out and retreat to?
Paulette: Our place in Utrecht really feels like home and BASTACOSI as well. It’s a pizzeria right around the corner from our house; a place where we often spend our evenings. We eat pizza there and talk all evening.

What’s the most annoying thing about your boy- or girlfriend?
David: She always wants to be right.
Paulette: David can be very temperamental. Oh, and he also has this trembling leg…!

What is your craziest, most hilarious memory of you as a couple?
Paulette: I remember that one time David got out of bed quite early after a night he had performed. He actually jumped out of bed and started to dance in our bedroom with his underpants between his buttocks. I really couldn’t stop laughing. It was hilarious and right then and there his nickname ‘Daviniqua’ arose. Which means: the female version of David.

Which character trait of the other are you jealous of?
David: I would like to say there are two traits because she is so patient and understanding. I really admire that.
Paulette: Positivity, he can always show me the bright side of things.

When was the last time you cried?
Paulette: In bed, in the arms of David, a few days ago. I cannot cry in front of most people, but with David I feel so safe and comfortable that it is ok.
David: During a movie a couple of weeks ago.

What would you do if you win the lottery tomorrow?
David: Buy a bigger house and build a big studio and fly over really cool producers and make music together.
Paulette: Buy a bigger house and go on a really nice and long trip together.

Which Disney character would your partner be?
David: Elsa of Frozen (with her beautiful white hair)
Paulette: Incrediboy from the Incredibles, my hero with his nice red hair.

Has your relationship changed you as people? In other words, do you think your partner has a (positive) effect on you? David: Before the two of us got together I was afraid that I would always try to adjust to people, but with her I can truly be myself.
Paulette: I have an anxiety disorder and thanks to David I have made real progress, which I am super thankful for.

What is your definition of love?
Paulette: The best love is the one that makes you a better person, without changing you into someone other than yourself.
David: Care about each other, love each other and always be open and honest.

Describe your ideal Saturday evening together, or depending on preference, your ideal Sunday morning!
Paulette: I love making our house all cosy and romantic by lighting the candles, drinking wine together and eat cheese fondue. We stay awake till midnight, chatting and making music together and spend the next day in bed together watching movies.

Do you have a favourite song together? If so, what is it?
Both: Jhene Aiko - Eternal Sunshine. We listened to this song a lot when we started dating. And the title already says more than enough…
