MELISSA & LEO
Karen met this lovely couple in the streets of Paris, where these lovebirds often spend their time when the sun is out. The photos were taken at the exact same spot where Melissa & Leo had their first date, shared their first kiss together and fell madly in love with each other…
What do you do?
Melissa: I am studying cinema. I would love to become a director or video editor in the future.
Leo: I am a music student and hope to become a composer for movies or artists.
How and where did you meet each other?
Melissa: Leo and I already knew each other before we actually met, as he was the ex-boyfriend of my best friends sister. But we first spoke with each other at a party in Paris and he wooed me immediately.
‘’I remember that I didn’t want to go home, as he made me feel so
good and safe’’
At what moment did you know you were in love?
Leo: I knew I was in love with her after we spent a whole day and night out wandering around in Paris, talking and having fun together without any feeling of time. We felt so good and it felt as if nothing else existed around the two of us.
Melissa: On that date we had all kinds of conversations, we listened to music and had a lot of fun together. I remember that I didn’t want to go home, as he made me feel so good and safe. It was like we knew each other for a very long time already.
Do you have a special place, or a place you call a “second home” where the two of you like to hang out and retreat to?
Melissa: Our special place is at the benches near the Seine at Bibliothèque Francois Mitterrand, where Karen took our photos. We often spend our free time at that place; it is where we had our first date and where we shared our first kiss together. We love this neighborhood and all the memories we have there.
How would you describe each other in four words?
Leo: Funny, beautiful, whole and charismatic.
Melissa: Crazy, shy, attractive and clever.
What is the most annoying thing about your boy- or girlfriend?
Leo: Melissa can be very stubborn.
Melissa: And Leo always wants to be right.
What is your craziest, most hilarious memory of you as a couple?
Melissa: we have had this hilarious moment together, which we call ‘The Drop’. It was one of those nights where we were at our special place near the Seine, talking all night. It had to be around 5am and it was quite cold. We were not even a couple yet, Leo was talking to me and suddenly a drop came out of Leo’s nose. At first we both acted like nothing happened but then we burst out laughing and both couldn’t stop for the next ten minutes.
Who is your partner’s Hollywood dream date?
Leo: Margot Robbie
Melissa: James Franco
Which character trait of the other are you jealous of?
Leo: I think it is the fact that she is bilingual: she speaks fluent Italian. Which is really cool.
When was the last time you cried?
Both: We watched the last episode of Assassination Classroom, an anime, and we both cried.
What would you do if you win the lottery tomorrow?
Melissa: We would go to the USA and to Japan, just to do some shopping.
Leo: And eating of course. We love Japanese food.
Which Disney character would your partner be?
Leo: Melissa is Kuzco.
Melissa: Definitely Shang from Mulan.
Has your relationship changed you as people? In other words, do you think your partner has a (positive) effect on you? If so, can you elaborate on what specifically?
Melissa: Leo taught me to calm down and not take things to heart so much.
Leo: I am lots more assertive thanks to Melissa.
What is your definition of love?
Leo: To truly be able to be yourself and to trust, love and support your partner.
Melissa: I think love is to be happy yourself and always wanting your lover to be happy as well. Also trusting each other and feeling as if that person was made for you.
If you could go back in time and take your partner on a first date again, what would you do differently?
We would not change anything, as everything was already perfect. We felt magical and fell deeply in love with each other.
