DANIEL & SHARON
‘Depth over distance’ is this sweet couple’s favourite song. Perhaps not so weird as it also represents the start of their relationship, which they jumped into with both feet. Sharon moved 700 km away from her hometown to be with Daniel. Here they tell us more about their life together…
What do you do?
Daniel: I am working as a professional tattoo artist in my own studio.
Sharon: I am about to finish my internship and will graduate from my Marketing & Communication study in 2018.
Where does this love story start?
Daniel: It actually started two years ago with a simple direct message via Instagram from Sharon. She was going through my feed, as she was ill and had nothing else to do. She basically introduced herself in a few very nice sentences and so it began.
Sharon: It was a weird situation as I had never done this before and wasn’t even sure if he was single. Besides, we did not live particularly close to each other, read: over six hours travel by car.
‘There will be no right time for someone to step into your life, so don’t be an idiot and keep this girl close.’
What was your first impression of your partner?
Daniel: When I first looked at her pictures I was quite stunned, as she is so damn pretty. However, I was also concerned that she was this typical Instagram-phenomenon or that it was Photoshop. So I forced her to video chat with me and found out she really is that beautiful.
Sharon: I stumbled across his Instagram account and found him extremely attractive but didn’t really think about anything at all. After a few days I still couldn’t stop thinking about his face.
At what moment did you know you were in love?
Daniel: In the first months I was very reserved, as I just came out of a long and exhausting relationship and thought I wasn’t ‘ready’ yet. However, we decided to go on a short vacation together. Already after a few hours I thought: there will be no right time for someone to step into your life, so don’t be an idiot and keep this girl close.
Sharon: Pretty fast actually, but especially when he sent me a huge package for my birthday. At first I thought he bought me a new travel bag – because of the long travels between Hamburg and Stuttgart - but in the end it was a saxophone. I used to play when I was a kid, but I had to sell mine when my parents couldn’t afford the lessons anymore.
How would you describe each other in four words?
Daniel: Warm, generous, empathic and outgoing.
Sharon: Extremely funny, loving, trusting and sensitive.
What do you do to cheer your partner up when he/she is having a bad day?
Daniel: I would probably joke around as always and just take care of her. Maybe bring her some ice cream... and fart.
Sharon: I would do funny things, like stupid dancing, hugging him... and fart.
What is the most annoying thing about your boy- or girlfriend?
Daniel: Sharon is super impatient.
Sharon: Daniel can be very quiet and introverted.
For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
Daniel: That I got the opportunity to make a living by practicing my passion and not to forget I am super grateful for all the amazing people around me.
Sharon: For having an open mind, carrying my heart on my tongue and for all the lovely people in my life that I can always count on, especially my boyfriend.
When was the last time you cried?
Daniel: At my birthday last June, when my mom told me that my granny was saving up some money to buy me my favourite cologne. She doesn’t have a lot of money and she lives in a retirement home, so it meant so much to me.
Sharon: About one month ago when I had an allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital for five days. Daniel was there all the time, before and after work and in every free minute. At moments like that you feel that the love between each other is so strong.
Has your relationship changed you as people?
Daniel: She keeps me ‘young’. I feel like I am getting old very fast due to so much work and if it weren’t for her I would probably not eat, sleep or take care of myself. She is literally making sure I don’t die too early.
Sharon: Due to all the circumstances of our relationship I grew a lot as a person. I had to move 700km away from my hometown to be with him, so I had to make new friends, find new work and so on. It made me more independent and mature at quite a young age.
When was the last time you were extremely proud of your partner?
Daniel: I am permanently proud of her as she works so hard even though circumstances may not always be that easy.
Sharon: He is an amazing boyfriend as he does so much to make our life the best it can be. Besides he is a great tattoo artist and he put all his love and passion in each and every tattoo he makes. He opened is own shop a year ago, which is now pretty successful because he works so hard for it.
What is your definition of love?
Both: Being best friends and lovers at the same time.
