Copenhagen, 2016

Meet Clara & Karl, a music teacher and a model from Copenhagen, who love to spend time at their seaside retreat and who never actually had a first date…

Where does this love story start?
Both: We met through a friend who hosted a dinner in Copenhagen in spring 2014.

At what moment did you know you were in love?
Karl: I think I pretty much knew the night we met. She is so beautiful and charming – I didn’t stand a chance... I worked up my courage and wrote her the following night. We ended up chatting for hours. The next morning I woke up feeling amazing, and I knew right away this was big.
Clara: A couple of weeks after we met we were spending an afternoon in a park, lying on the grass, talking and laughing. Karl turned and looked at me in such a special way that I just knew at that exact moment I was absolutely in love with him.

Describe your ideal Sunday morning
A perfect Sunday morning consists of being able to sleep in, cuddle and having no commitments. Breakfast in bed and – sometimes - a movie.

Do you have a special place, or a place you call a “second home” where the two of you like to hang out and retreat to?
We love spending time together at Clara’s beach house in Northern Sealand. We’ve come there from the very beginning of our relationship, and it really is a special place to us.

What is the most annoying thing about your partner?
Karl: Clara is always stressed out. Even when she shouldn’t be and there’s no reason at all.
Clara: Karl never answers his phone or replies to my texts. That's really annoying.

What is your craziest, most hilarious memory of you as a couple?
Clara: Last March I was working in Sydney for a couple of months and after 4 weeks of being alone, Karl came to visit me. We had missed each other so much, and I had been alone a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see him. The weather was terrible the day he arrived, there was a really heavy rainstorm. We sat in our hotel bar on our first night together and drank champagne, ate French Fries and sushi and laughed while the rain was pouring onto the hotel ceiling. I don’t think either of us will ever forget that night, there was just something really special about it.

Who is your partner’s Hollywood dream date?
Karl: Clara would bring a young DiCaprio.

If you could go back in time and take your partner on a first date again, what would you do differently?
Both: We’ve never been on an actual first date, so to actually go on one, would be a good start.

Has your relationship changed you as people?
Clara: I think Karl has changed me for the better. He always supports me and makes me feel confident. But I’ve also become more emotional and fragile – I worry all the time that something will happen to him.
Karl: Clara has definitely changed me – and still does. She encourages me to leave my comfort zone and get things done. (I’m really bad at getting things done).

What is your definition of love?
Love is knowing that everything will be alright as long as you’re together.
