Amsterdam, 2017

Stunning couple Alec & Brian complement each other like Yin and Yang; Brian is Alec’s walking calendar, whereas Alec adds some spontaneity to Brian’s life. While they dream about their future with five kids together, for now they love spending time with friends and family.

What do you do?
Alec: I hope to graduate by the end of this year. I do Dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, aside from that I also just became an auntie, which is incredibly exciting.
Brian: I am a real estate manager in Rotterdam and try spend time with my friends and family as much as I can.

How would you describe each other in four words?
Alec: Caring, top chef, a real gentleman and ambitious.
Brian: Family person, impulsive, loving and creative.

‘’After I got home from our date I smelled the sweater I wore on that date and it made me think of him. I was practically on cloud nine.’’

At what moment did you know you were in love?
Alec: After I got home from our first date I could smell his scent on my sweater for days… a sure sign that I was on cloud nine.
Brian: I had this incredible feeling, every time I saw her, which would just keep getting stronger and stronger each time we met.

Do you have a special place, or a place you call a “second home” where the two of you like to hang out and retreat to?
Both: The car. We travel so much between 010 (Rotterdam) and 020 (Amsterdam) that the car practically feels like our second home. Besides (you like to say besides but that is not really what you should use – ASIDE FROM THAT is better but try and use other ways), we also went on a road trip a while ago, again spending lots of time in that car.

What is your craziest, most hilarious memory of you as a couple?
Brian: Whilst vacationing in France we went into the sea, when Alec claimed to having seen lots of jellyfish (in that clear blue water). Of course I didn’t take it that seriously, seeing as Alec can be quite dramatic. I carried her back to the shore and decided to go for a swim by myself. However, after only a couple of seconds I ended up in a gigantic group of jellyfish, Alec her ‘I told you so-face’ spoke for itself.

‘’Brian is the stabile factor in my life and in moments of chaos he makes me feel peaceful again.’’

What would you do if you won the lottery tomorrow?
Brian: Build a dream house for us and our five children.

Which element (fire, earth, air, water) fits your partner the best and why?
Alec: He is a mix of earth and water. Despite his Dutch soberness, he does have this whole other emotional side.
Brian: Fire. Alec is Molukkan, no further explanation necessary.

Has your relationship changed you as people? In other words, do you think your partner has a (positive) effect on you? If so, can you elaborate on what specifically?
Alec: As a student who is nearly finished I undergo a lot of ‘last-minute-stress’. Brian is the stabile factor in my life. In moments of chaos he helps me find peace again. On top of that, Brian is also my walking calendar, as I am rubbish at remembering anything.

What is your definition of love?
Both: Sharing life with your best friend and being able to grow by each other’s attendance.

When was the last time you were extremely proud of your partner?
Brian: I am so proud of her whenever I see her with her godchild.

Do you have a favourite song together? If so, what is it?
Both: Anderson Paak’s album, ‘Malibu’. We listened to this album all the time in the early stage of our relationship, thus it has a lot of nostalgia and meaning to us.
